Barrera Imports produces, imports, and distributes authentic Mexican food products for the U.S. market. We operate two retail brands — Gloria, a Chicago market staple since the 1990s, and Gloria de México, a chile purée line launched to serve the modern kitchen — and we extend the same production capability to white label and co-packing partners.
Our manufacturing takes place in México’s traditional agricultural regions, where the ingredients we work with have been cultivated for generations. Our distribution operates out of Chicago, serving retail, foodservice, and wholesale accounts across Illinois and the broader Midwest.
We’re a family operation with the systems of a professional one: FDA-compliant production, documented specifications, digital inventory management, and a leadership team that answers the phone.
Who Runs It
Leadership
Angela Barrera
Angela leads Barrera Imports’ U.S. operations, distribution, and commercial development. She founded Gloria de México to bring ready-to-use chile purées to a market that had been asking for them, and now directs production, sourcing, and partnership programs across both brands.
Álvaro Barrera
Álvaro established the Gloria brand and has directed production in Cuernavaca for more than three decades. He oversees manufacturing, sourcing relationships, and product formulation in México.

We source directly from Mexican agricultural producers and maintain long-term supplier relationships rather than transactional ones. Shelf-stable formulation reduces cold-chain energy demand across the distribution network. We’re committed to the communities on both ends of our supply chain.
